Why the rate changes during the day
Local gold prices follow the international price in dollars and the rupee–dollar rate. When global prices fall, local Sarafa rates usually adjust the same day — which is why the opening and later rates above differ.
Before you buy
- The rates above are bullion rates. Jewellers add making charges, and rates can differ slightly from city to city.
- Ask for the karat and the weight on the receipt. 22K jewellery should be priced near the 22K rate, not the 24K rate.
- To check a jeweller's quote, multiply the weight by the per-gram rate for that karat, then add the making charge separately.
